Leo Boniface – supporting this amazing, young golf prodigy

At age 4, local boy Leo Boniface started playing golf at Horton Golf Club in Epsom and by age 5, was offered membership at Cuddington Golf Club, Banstead, as the youngest ever member, which normally starts at 7 years old.

By the time Leo was 6 years old, having spotted his talent early on, his parents entered Leo into the World Championship qualifier and he came third, despite having to play in particularly challenging weather, and won a spot representing Britain at the World Championships in San Diego, USA.

Leo also started competing in the ‘age 10 and under’ tournaments and quickly joined up with the British Junior Golf Tour, which allowed him to travel around the country.

But playing golf and the amount of travelling involved, was not cheap. In 2019, VBS noticed Leo’s story and reached out to the family, offering to sponsor Leo, take some financial pressure off the family and enable Leo to focus on the all the opportunities coming his way and keep playing the sport he loves.

Leo’s Dad Lester, keeps us regularly updated and has told us that Leo’s had a fantastic season, winning various British Junior Tour events, Clutch Tour events and several, second and third place trophies too. Leo also had his first sub-par round at The Sprints GC, winning first place at the British Junior Tour Players Championship, scoring -1 for his round.

The highlights of his season were winning the Wee Wonders British Championship at Gullane GC in Scotland and qualifying for next years’ World Junior Championships at Pinehurst GC in North Carolina USA.

Leo also took everyone by surprise when he won the Under 11’s Clutch Tour Championship at The Belfry, with a fantastic +12 round-off the men’s yellow tees.

Leo has raised over £3,000 for the Shooting Star children’s hospices, playing a golf competition against a keen adult golfer, and winning!

VBS continues to support Leo, he is an inspiration, and we are excited to see how this amazing, young golf prodigy progresses.
